The widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance, saying she and her children are struggling to afford rent, school fees, and basic living expenses.

The appeal was made in a video interview with content creator King Mitchy on Wednesday, during which the actor’s widow and children spoke about their difficult living conditions following his death.

Speaking emotionally, she said the family had been without electricity for about two months after their power supply was disconnected over unpaid bills.

She also revealed that they now rely on water from a well due to financial constraints.

“We fetch water from the well because I have not paid the house rent. They have cut our light for two months now. We have been living like that. Every night, we go out to find a place to charge our phones. It’s not easy,” she said.

One of the actor’s daughters commended her mother for her efforts to keep the family together despite the hardship.

“I want to thank God for my mum. She tries everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees, and make us happy,” she said.

The widow further disclosed that her children risk being withdrawn from school due to unpaid fees.

“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she added.

The content creator who conducted the interview said efforts were being made to seek public support to help the family settle rent, pay school fees, and restore electricity to their home.

Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most popular comic actors, died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.
