Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has been affirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for a second term ahead of the 2027 elections.
The affirmation took place at the APC Secretariat in Minna, the state capital, where party members drawn from all 277 wards unanimously endorsed the governor as the sole candidate for the governorship race.
Bago emerged unopposed after APC stakeholders across the state adopted him through consensus, effectively clearing the path for his second-term bid.
The Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Danladi Mohammed, said the exercise was conducted under the directive of the party’s national headquarters and resulted in Bago’s affirmation as the consensus candidate.
Senator Mohammed Musa moved the motion for the adoption of Governor Bago as the party’s sole governorship candidate for 2027, citing his compliance with party guidelines. The motion was seconded by Afiniki Dauda, Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Gurara, before it was formally affirmed by delegates.
The committee also confirmed the party’s House of Assembly candidates across Niger State, noting that 23 were selected through consensus while four emerged via direct primaries.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Bago thanked Nigerlites for their continued support and pledged to deliver more democratic dividends to the people of the state if re-elected.
He said the consensus endorsement reflected the strong bond between his administration, the party, and the people, adding that the trust placed in him would not be taken for granted.
Meanwhile, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has expressed confidence in securing victory in the APC governorship primary in his state, regardless of the number of contenders in the race.
Kefas made the remarks after participating in the primary election at Hospital Ward, Nuru Islam Primary and Secondary School in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
