Pate withdraws interest in Bauchi governorship race

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, has announced that he will not contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election, despite appeals from supporters urging him to run.

In a 10-minute Hausa-language video circulating on social media, Pate said the decision followed deep reflection and broad consultations.

He explained that his choice was driven by a continued commitment to national service, noting that he still has significant contributions to make at the federal level and to the development of Northern Nigeria.

“It is unlikely that I will run for governorship in 2027, and I assure you that you will not regret the love and support you have shown me,” he said.

Although stepping aside from the race, Pate pledged continued involvement in the political process, including supporting credible candidates ahead of the primaries.

“There are many aspirants seeking various elective positions in Bauchi State. The time will come when I will support credible and capable candidates who truly represent the people’s interest. We will identify the best candidates during the primaries,” he added.

He urged other aspirants to remain patient and support whoever emerges from the primaries, noting that his own decision to forgo ambition should serve as an example of political maturity.

Pate also expressed his intention to work towards ensuring the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State at all levels.

He thanked his supporters for their encouragement and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering impactful service.

Pate, who has contested the Bauchi governorship three times in the past, has yet to secure the party’s ticket at the primaries.
