Former Liverpool and Bournemouth winger Jordon Ibe has been sentenced to a 12-month community order after pleading guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend in south London.
The 30-year-old former England Under-21 international attacked Amie Mayson outside her home in Lambeth in December, according to the BBC on Friday.
Croydon Magistrates’ Court heard that Ibe pulled a braid from Mayson’s hair during an argument, leaving her with a bald patch.
Ibe initially denied a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in March but later changed his plea to guilty.
Representing himself in court on Friday, Ibe described his actions as “a serious mistake” and expressed remorse.
“I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful,” he told the court.
“I’ve had to look at myself in the mirror. I cannot change what I did but will take responsibility for what I do next.”
Magistrate Brij Kalia sentenced Ibe to a 12-month community order, including 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity.
He was also ordered to pay £764, comprising a £114 surcharge and £650 in court costs.
Ibe began his professional career at Wycombe Wanderers before joining Liverpool. He later played for Bournemouth and represented England at Under-21 level.
