Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) have successfully rescued three nurses abducted by gunmen from a primary health centre in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the rescue on Saturday at the command headquarters, stating that the health workers were freed at around 4:30 a.m.
Adeleye also confirmed the rescue of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son, who were kidnapped on Friday evening from Pelebe community along Oda Road, Akure.
“The man and his son were kidnapped between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. yesterday. Our operatives rescued them at about 1:00 a.m. after a heavy confrontation with the kidnappers,” he said.
He added: “The three health workers abducted earlier have also been rescued at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility.”
Reports indicate that armed bandits stormed the government-owned primary health centre in Oke Ijebu around 2 a.m., abducting at least three nurses on duty. Witnesses said the attackers arrived in a bus, forced their way into the facility, and whisked the victims away, while other staff managed to escape.
The bandits reportedly packed the nurses into the bus before fleeing to an unknown location.
The Amotekun commander reassured residents that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority for the Ondo State government. He also urged the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to enhance safety across the state.
