Truck falls off Anambra bridge, no casualties recorded

A major accident was averted on Saturday at the New Parts Market axis of Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after a trailer reportedly plunged off the Nkpor flyover and crashed onto the road below.

The incident caused panic among traders, motorists, and commuters in the busy commercial area, though no loss of life was recorded.

Eyewitnesses said the trailer fell from the bridge and landed near the bustling market environment, narrowly missing pedestrians, traders, and moving vehicles.

A parked shuttle bus was, however, damaged in the crash. The owner of the vehicle reportedly escaped unhurt.

Business activities in the area were temporarily disrupted as residents and passersby gathered at the scene of the incident.

Shortly after the crash, the Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, Stanley Nkwoka, visited the site to assess the situation.

Nkwoka confirmed that no casualties were recorded and expressed gratitude that no lives were lost, noting that traders, transport operators, and other residents in the area escaped the accident unharmed.

He urged drivers of heavy-duty vehicles to strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The mayor also reassured residents of the council’s commitment to improving public safety and strengthening emergency response across the local government area.
