The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Abdulrahman Muhammed has fixed its National Convention for March 28 and 29, 2026, in Abuja, following its 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday.
The meeting, chaired by Muhammed in his capacity as National Caretaker Committee Chairman, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu serving as Secretary, reviewed the state of the party, preparations for forthcoming congresses, and ongoing judicial developments affecting the PDP.
The NEC reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, stressing that it remains the party’s only lawful national administrative organ and will continue to function as the National Working Committee (NWC) until a duly elected leadership is installed.
The committee approved the timetable for party congresses nationwide, scheduling ward and local government congresses for February 2026, while state congresses will be held in March 2026.
The NEC directed the National Caretaker Committee to issue comprehensive guidelines and notices for the congresses, in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations, and existing judicial directives.
Welcoming the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, the NEC reiterated its commitment to judicial independence and urged all party organs and members to strictly adhere to court rulings.
In preparation for the national convention, the NEC ordered the immediate activation of convention sub-committees and the commencement of all necessary logistical and administrative arrangements. It also approved the extension of the tenure of state and zonal caretaker committees pending the conduct of congresses and the national convention.
The NEC called on party members to remain united, disciplined, and focused, emphasizing that collective party interests must supersede personal ambitions. It expressed confidence that the resolutions reached would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability, and reposition the PDP for future electoral success.
