Bayern confirm Leon Goretzka’s end-of-season exit

Bayern Munich midfielder, Leon Goretzka
FC Bayern Munich have confirmed that midfielder Leon Goretzka will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that the 29-year-old will see out the current campaign before departing as a free agent in the summer.

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano on Friday, Freund said: “Leon Goretzka will leave FC Bayern in the summer as a free agent, not now. Leon’s time at FC Bayern will be over in the summer. He will go another way after eight successful years. We’ll fight together in the coming months to achieve big things.”

The statement rules out any immediate transfer, with Bayern expecting Goretzka to remain fully involved for the remainder of the season.

Goretzka joined Bayern from Schalke in 2018 and has been a pivotal figure during one of the club’s most successful eras, winning multiple Bundesliga titles, domestic cups, and the UEFA Champions League.

Despite increased competition for starting spots in recent seasons, the Germany international has remained a steady and experienced presence in the squad.

Bayern and Goretzka will now focus on finishing the season strongly before the midfielder embarks on the next chapter of his career this summer.
