The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results, with 60.26% of candidates earning five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

According to Wushishi, 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination, and 1,358,339 of them sat for it. Out of these, 818,492 candidates (60.26%) obtained five credits and above, including in English Language and Mathematics. Meanwhile, 1,144,496 candidates (84.26%) secured five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.

Describing the results as a “milestone,” Wushishi said they reflect the Council’s commitment to credibility, transparency, and the delivery of quality education.

He disclosed that 1,622 candidates with special needs also sat for the examination. These included individuals with hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism, low vision, and other conditions.

On examination malpractice, the registrar reported a significant decline, with 3,878 cases recorded in 2025, marking a 61.58% decrease from the 10,094 cases reported in 2024.

However, he said that 38 schools across 13 states were involved in large-scale cheating and will face sanctions. Additionally, nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun States will be blacklisted for various misconducts, including aiding malpractice.

Wushishi also revealed that results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State have been withheld due to disruptions caused by communal clashes during the examination period.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for supporting NECO’s reform efforts and reaffirmed the Council’s resolve to uphold standards and integrity.

The registrar urged higher education institutions to wait for all examination bodies to release their results before concluding admission processes, ensuring fair opportunities for all candidates.

NECO advised candidates to access their results online via the Council’s official website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their registration numbers.
