Governor Abiodun appoints 1,200 political assistants

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun
The Ogun State Government has appointed 1,200 political assistants to serve as change agents and promote civic engagement throughout the state.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the appointments are part of the governor’s commitment to deepen democratic participation and broaden access to the dividends of democracy.

Akinmade described the initiative as a strategic effort to strengthen democratic governance across all communities in Ogun State.

“The assistants — five from each of the state’s 236 wards — will play a crucial role in fostering greater local participation in governance, effectively bridging the gap between grassroots communities and the state government,” he said.

He added, “These political assistants are tasked with supporting the delivery of democratic dividends, articulating the needs of their respective wards, and communicating these concerns to the state government. They are also expected to provide timely and accurate feedback from the government back to the wards and vice versa.”

The Special Adviser emphasized that this initiative fulfills Governor Abiodun’s electoral promise to involve every ward in the administration’s development programs and to run an inclusive government that values citizen input in shaping policies and initiatives.

The Ogun State Government called on the new appointees to actively contribute to the growth and development of their wards, local governments, and the state as a whole.
