Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State staged a peaceful protest on Monday at the Lagos State House of Assembly, decrying the alleged imposition of appointees across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The aggrieved party members also called for the immediate removal of the APC state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, accusing him of orchestrating undemocratic practices within the party’s local structures.
Protesters—reportedly representing all 57 LGAs and LCDAs—gathered in large numbers outside the Assembly complex, chanting slogans and holding placards with messages such as “Ojelabi Must Go” and “We Want Fresh Leadership.”
The demonstration, which began early Monday morning, drew significant attention and prompted heightened security around the Assembly. Several police officers were deployed to maintain order and prevent any disruption.
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, arrived at the protest scene to address the crowd and help ease tensions. In a brief statement, he assured the protesters that their concerns would be addressed through internal party mechanisms.
“This is a party matter, and we will resolve it amicably. Everyone’s voice matters,” the deputy governor said.
The protest highlights growing internal rifts within the Lagos APC ahead of anticipated appointments at the local government level. Party leadership has not yet issued an official response to the demands.
