The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and key roads around the Alausa Secretariat area in Lagos State were noticeably deserted on Saturday morning as the state conducted its local government elections.
Our correspondent, who traveled from the expressway to the Alausa Secretariat in Ikeja, observed that traffic was unusually light, with far fewer vehicles than on a typical Saturday morning.
The Lagos State Police had announced movement restrictions across the state to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process. Officers were deployed early, with personnel stationed along Lagos Assembly Road by 7 a.m., preparing to secure strategic locations.
By 8:18 a.m., the area remained largely quiet, despite the official start time for voting being 8 a.m., when voters were expected to head to their polling units.
The local government elections are ongoing across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas within the state.
