AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed on Monday that Croatian captain Luka Modrić will join the Italian giants from Real Madrid following the Club World Cup.

Modrić, who turns 40 in September, has spent over a decade at Madrid after signing from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. He has been strongly linked with a move to Serie A since early June, following his announcement that he would leave the Spanish club at the end of his contract.

Real Madrid are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup on Wednesday, with the final scheduled for July 13.

“He’ll arrive in August,” Allegri said during his first press conference since returning as Milan manager. “He’s an extraordinary and important player. There’s no need to say more.”

Allegri returns to AC Milan after previously managing the club from 2010 to 2014, a spell that included winning the Serie A title in 2011. The Rossoneri will kick off their 2025–26 campaign with an Italian Cup fixture on August 17.
