FG launches free technical teacher training programme nationwide

The Federal Ministry of Education has officially launched the 2025/2026 Technical Teachers Training Programme (TTTP), a tuition-free, one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) designed to enhance the skills of secondary school teachers specializing in technical and vocational subjects across Nigeria.

Unveiled by the Ministry’s Department of Technology and Science Education in Abuja, this initiative reflects the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) nationwide.

The ministry emphasized that the programme aims to “re-energize TVET” by equipping teachers with up-to-date pedagogical skills and aligning their expertise with current industry standards.

The TTTP application portal will open on July 8, 2025, and close on July 21, 2025.

Eligible candidates include teachers currently instructing technical or vocational subjects in public secondary technical schools or colleges, who have at least five years remaining before retirement.

The programme seeks to improve the quality of technical education delivery, better preparing students to meet the demands of 21st-century industries and ensuring Nigeria’s workforce remains globally competitive.

The PGDE curriculum will cover areas such as Technical Education, Vocational Education, Building Technology Education, Business Education, Home Economics & Hospitality, Agricultural Education, Automobile Technology, Computer Science Education, Electrical/Electronics, and more.

The pilot cohort will be conducted in collaboration with six universities: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Federal University of Technology, Minna; University of Benin; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; and Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo.

The Ministry cautioned that multiple submissions from the same applicant will result in automatic disqualification.
