Former Labour Party Vice Presidential Candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has urged President Bola Tinubu to forgo any plans of contesting the 2027 presidential election, declaring that “his time is up” and that Nigerians will no longer tolerate undemocratic leadership.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Datti argued that Tinubu should recognize the signs and bow out before the electorate rejects him at the polls.
“I expect Tinubu to throw in the towel—if he’s truly as politically smart as people say. Anyone who could orchestrate events from 2007 leading up to the 2023 electoral heist must be extremely strategic. But I’m not praising him. If he’s that smart, he should see that he’s bound to lose in 2027.”
Datti said there are already strong contenders preparing for 2027 whom he described as “Tinubu’s political nemesis,” though he declined to name them.
He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing on key promises and losing credibility with the public.
“APC is a party built on lies. Buhari failed to fight corruption or deliver security. Tinubu won’t do it either. Nigerians are waking up.”
Looking ahead, Datti expressed optimism that citizens would rally around a new wave of leadership focused on accountability and unity.
“Nigerians will soon say, ‘if you can’t practice democracy, this country isn’t for you.’ They will choose good governance and reject bad leadership. We’ll begin to heal, unite, and rebuild as a nation. Their time is up.”
