Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick narrowly missed re-election to the FIFA Council, losing by just one vote at the 14th CAF Extraordinary Congress in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.
Pinnick garnered 28 votes, falling short of the 29 votes needed to secure one of the final seats, which were claimed by Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania) and Souleman Hassan Waberi (Djibouti).
Morocco’s Fouzi Lekjaa was the top scorer with 49 votes, while Egypt’s Hany Abou Rida and Niger’s Djibrilla Hima Hamidou each earned 35 votes, securing their spots on the council.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe was re-elected unopposed, and Kanizat Ibrahim of Comoros claimed the women’s seat with 30 votes.
In the elections for the CAF Executive Committee, Sobha Mohamed Ally Samir (Mauritius) and Feizal Ismael Sidat (Mozambique) won the COSAFA seats, while Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Wallace Karia (Tanzania), and Mustapha Ishola Raji (Liberia) successfully retained their positions.
