Pope’s condition improving, treatment ongoing – Vatican

Pope Francis
Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized for weeks due to double pneumonia, is showing continued improvement, and his prognosis is no longer considered uncertain, the Vatican announced on Monday.

“The Holy Father’s clinical condition remains stable,” the Vatican said in a statement.

“Recent improvements have been further consolidated, as confirmed by blood tests, clinical observations, and his positive response to medication,” the statement added.

As a result, doctors have updated the prognosis, which had previously been labeled “reserved,” meaning the outcome was uncertain. However, the Vatican clarified that, due to the complexity of the pope’s condition and the severity of the infection when he was admitted, ongoing medical treatment in the hospital will continue for several more days.

Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 for treatment of bronchitis, which later developed into pneumonia in both lungs. Although he experienced several respiratory crises, he has been steadily improving in recent days.
