The authorities at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, have launched an investigation into an altercation between a lecturer and a student over a TikTok video filmed on campus.
A spokesperson for the university, Njelita Louis, confirmed that the management, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, will take appropriate disciplinary action against any individual found responsible for the incident.
In viral footage, Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies, is seen dancing in the corridor, filming a TikTok video. Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, passed by and lightly tapped her on the shoulder, requesting her to move aside. The student, however, became upset by the interruption.
The videos show the student accusing the lecturer of hitting her, and further escalating the situation by grabbing his shirt and dragging him. She allegedly bit him on the wrist and arm during the confrontation. Despite the altercation, the lecturer remained composed throughout.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many netizens expressing differing views on the situation.
In an official statement, the university said, “The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been made aware of the disturbing incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye and Goddy Mbakwe Precious. The matter, which has garnered significant attention on social media, is being treated with the utmost seriousness by the university authorities.”
The statement continued: “In accordance with our core values of discipline, self-reliance, excellence, and adherence to fair hearing, equity, and justice, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, has ordered a full-scale, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter. We urge all concerned parties and the public to remain calm as we diligently seek the truth. The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum and will take appropriate actions based on the investigation’s findings.”
The university emphasized that it remains dedicated to maintaining high moral and ethical standards, asserting that there is no place for indiscipline or misconduct within its community.
