PDP BoT affirms Ude Okoye as authentic national secretary

Sunday Ude-Okoye
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially recognized Ude Okoye as the party’s legitimate National Secretary and urged the National Working Committee to immediately swear him in as the substantive national secretary.

This resolution was made during an emergency meeting held on Wednesday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, aimed at addressing the ongoing internal crisis within the party.

The meeting was attended by BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, BoT Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, as well as former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu, and Senator Ben Obi, among others.

At the gathering, the BoT received a report from former Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki, who was tasked with reviewing court documents submitted by both PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye, who has been contesting the validity of his position.

In his opening remarks, Senator Wabara commended the PDP governors for requesting that the National Working Committee convene the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in March. He also cited recent violent incidents as the reason the BoT decided not to hold their meetings at the Wadata Plaza until security conditions at the secretariat are restored.

The ongoing dispute between Okoye and Senator Anyanwu, both claiming the position of PDP National Secretary, has created a deep rift within the party, further intensifying internal divisions.
