Controversial rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody.

Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State. His arrest was reportedly linked to an alleged altercation with Afrofusion star Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu.

Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that Burna Boy was behind his client’s arrest. The rapper had previously taunted Burna Boy over his association with embattled U.S. rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing serious charges of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

This led to Darlington’s initial arrest. Despite the incident, Speed Darlington swore never to back down from criticizing the Grammy-winning artist due to his connection with Combs.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Darlington’s representative, Alieke, announced that the rapper had been granted bail. “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” the post read, without providing further details.

Earlier, Darlington’s attorney, Deji Adeyanju, stated that the rapper would either be arraigned within 48 hours or released on bail. “Our FREP application for Speed Darlington has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues of injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail,” Adeyanju wrote.
