Iran’s judiciary on Saturday announced the execution of a man accused of providing Israeli intelligence with information about Iranian missile sites.
The judiciary said the death sentence was carried out against Hossein Pedaran, who it alleged had provided Mossad with information about missile sites in Isfahan province, central Iran. It did not say when Pedaran was arrested or tried.
Pedaran had been convicted of “espionage and intelligence collaboration” on behalf of Israel, according to the judiciary, which said the sentence had been upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court.
The case had not previously been reported by the media.
Iranian authorities have stepped up arrests and executions amid the Middle East war that began in February and the nationwide protests that peaked in January.
Numerous Iranian missile sites have been targeted in airstrikes during the conflict. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed at the start of the war.
Isfahan province, which is home to several Iranian nuclear facilities, has been among the areas hardest hit during the conflict.
In August, the judiciary announced the execution of two men accused of “transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites” to Israel.
Iran carries out the second-highest number of executions in the world after China, according to human rights groups.
