The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University chapter, has suspended its indefinite strike following the Kaduna State Government’s approval for the full implementation and domestication of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement for academic staff of the university.
The union announced the suspension in a statement signed by its Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, and Secretary, Silas Bakut, following its congress held on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
According to the statement, the congress unanimously resolved to suspend the industrial action with effect from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, September 18.
The decision followed Governor Uba Sani’s approval of the implementation and domestication of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement for academic staff of Kaduna State University.
The implementation will commence with the October 2026 salary.
The university’s Governing Council and management have also approved the payment of nine months of accrued arrears covering the period from January to September.
ASUU commended the Kaduna State Government, the government’s negotiation team and the university management for resolving the dispute through what it described as constructive engagement.
The union also expressed appreciation for the resolution of the dispute without intimidation or threats.
With the suspension of the strike effective Friday, academic activities at Kaduna State University are expected to resume.
