Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of Spanish World Cup-winning forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona, with the 26-year-old joining the French champions on a contract until 2031.
PSG confirmed the transfer on Saturday, with Torres set to wear the number nine shirt.
Born in Foios, Spain, on February 29, 2000, Torres began his football journey in futsal before joining the Valencia CF academy at the age of seven.
He progressed through Valencia’s youth system and made history in December 2017 when he became the first player born in the 21st century to feature in La Liga. He made his senior debut against Eibar.
During his three seasons with Valencia, Torres made 97 appearances and established himself as one of Spain’s most promising young forwards. He also became the youngest player in Valencia’s history to reach 50 league appearances and the first player born in the 21st century to score for a Spanish club in the Champions League.
Torres won his first major trophy in 2019 when Valencia lifted the Copa del Rey.
His performances earned him a move to Manchester City in 2020, where he played under Pep Guardiola. Torres scored 16 goals in 43 appearances for the English club, helping City win the Premier League and League Cup. He also featured in their run to the 2021 Champions League final.
Torres joined Barcelona during the 2021–22 season and went on to become an important member of the club’s attack.
Nicknamed “El Tiburón”, meaning “The Shark” in Spanish, Torres scored 65 goals in 207 appearances for Barcelona. During his time at the Catalan club, he won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.
His international career began with Spain’s youth teams. Torres won the European Under-17 Championship in 2017 and the European Under-19 Championship in 2019 before making his senior debut in 2020 under Luis Enrique.
He represented Spain at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, before helping the national team win the UEFA Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.
Torres then played a key role in Spain’s 2026 World Cup triumph in North America. He scored the winning goal in extra time as Spain defeated Argentina in the final, securing their second World Cup title.
The victory added another major honour to Torres’ already impressive international career and further enhanced his reputation on the global stage.
Following his move to Paris, Torres expressed his delight at joining PSG and thanked club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos and head coach Luis Enrique for the opportunity.
The transfer also reunites Torres with Luis Enrique, who handed him his senior international debut in 2020.
Torres now begins a new chapter of his career in Paris, where he will wear PSG’s number nine shirt and remain under contract with the club until 2031.
