The Delta State Government has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Izeze Reuben, to allow security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into allegations linking him to the recent assault of a senior aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu, the government said the suspension was necessary to ensure that the investigation into the incident was conducted without interference.
The alleged assault involved Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, who was reportedly attacked and injured during a political gathering at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the events leading to the alleged assault and the individuals involved, are now subject to investigation by the appropriate security authorities.
Mudi was reportedly injured during the altercation, raising concerns over the circumstances of the incident and prompting calls for a thorough investigation.
The state government said the suspension of the commissioner would enable security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the incident and conduct their investigation without interference.
It reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, the maintenance of law and order, and the protection of human life.
The government stressed that the commitment applies in all circumstances, including incidents involving state institutions and public officials.
