Nigerian professional wrestler Oba Femi claimed the biggest victory of his career on Saturday night, defeating former UFC and WWE champion Brock Lesnar in a brutal Hell in a Cell match at WWE SummerSlam.
The showdown at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, marked Femi’s first appearance inside the unforgiving steel structure, with the Lagos-born star emerging victorious after a punishing contest.
Femi matched Lesnar’s physicality from the opening bell, surviving a barrage of German suplexes, a devastating Tombstone piledriver onto exposed wooden boards beneath the ring, and repeated attacks with steel steps before fighting back with two thunderous chokeslams.
The decisive moment came when Lesnar attempted to use a steel chair, only for Femi to knock it from his hands with a stiff right hand before planting him with his signature Fall From Grace to seal the victory.
In a surprising show of respect after the match, Lesnar embraced Femi, took a microphone and publicly endorsed the Nigerian star.
Calling himself the past and Femi the future of WWE, the former world champion praised his opponent before the SummerSlam crowd.
Reacting to the emotional moment, Femi admitted he was caught off guard by Lesnar’s gesture.
“The hug and public endorsement was definitely a shock, and I didn’t see that coming.
“I know that deep down, Brock has always respected me, and he knows that deep down, I respect him as well.”
The victory caps a remarkable breakthrough year for Femi, who defeated Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 in April before capturing the 2026 King of the Ring tournament in June.
Their SummerSlam encounter brought a months-long rivalry to a dramatic conclusion after Lesnar returned from an apparent retirement to attack Femi and later evened the score by defeating him in a rematch at Clash in Italy.
