Oyo abduction: Senate announces ₦50m support to affected families

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has announced a ₦50 million support package for five families affected by the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Akpabio disclosed the donation during Wednesday’s plenary, saying the intervention was aimed at providing assistance to families who suffered losses in the tragic incident.

According to the Senate President, ₦10 million will be given to each of the families of the three security personnel who were killed during the rescue operation, as well as the families of the two teachers who lost their lives.

The support package forms part of the Senate’s response to the incident, with lawmakers calling for greater assistance to bereaved families and urging security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue other victims of abductions across the country.

However, raising a point of order during plenary, Senator Abdul Ningi urged the Senate to ensure that any compensation or support for victims of recent attacks is extended to all affected citizens, regardless of their status.

Ningi argued that assistance should be comprehensive and inclusive, warning against a situation where some victims receive support while others who suffered similar losses are overlooked.

He maintained that every citizen affected by the incident deserves equal consideration and support.
