Massimiliano Allegri has been appointed Napoli manager, replacing Antonio Conte, the Serie A champions announced on Friday.
“Napoli welcomes Massimiliano Allegri as manager of the first team,” the club said in a statement, confirming the 58-year-old has signed a three-year contract running until 2029.
Allegri returns to Naples after most recently managing AC Milan, where he was dismissed following the club’s failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. He previously enjoyed two spells at Juventus (2014–19 and 2021–24), winning multiple Serie A titles, and also led Milan between 2010 and 2014.
His appointment comes amid a busy managerial reshuffle in Serie A, with nine of the league’s 20 clubs changing coaches since the end of the season. Among them are AC Milan, who have appointed Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, Atalanta, who turned to Maurizio Sarri, and Fiorentina, who hired Fabio Grosso.
Allegri succeeds Conte, who guided Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2024/25 season before stepping down.
Conte is widely expected to become the next Italy head coach. The former Italy international previously managed the Azzurri from 2014 to 2016, leading them to the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2016, where they were eliminated on penalties by Germany.
