The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with 186,291 candidates participating in the nationwide assessment.

According to the council, candidates sat for examinations in 12 subjects across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination was conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026, while the results were approved for release following the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held on Thursday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folake David, commended the smooth conduct of the examination and the processes that led to the timely release of the results.

David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the overall administration of the examination.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country as well as members of NECO’s management team.

Meanwhile, the Award Committee approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

NECO said the re-sit examination is intended for candidates with deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.

According to the council, the exercise will provide affected candidates with an opportunity to address their deficiencies and obtain the required certification for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I) without having to repeat an academic session.

NECO reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards while providing eligible candidates with pathways to continue their academic progression.
