Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has revoked the bail granted to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, following his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
The judge made the decision on Tuesday after counsel for the prosecution, Kehinde Akinlolu, informed the court that Sowore was absent despite being aware of the scheduled hearing date.
Akinlolu urged the court to withdraw the bail, arguing that the defendant’s repeated absence was deliberate and amounted to an attempt to delay proceedings.
In his ruling, Justice Umar noted that although Sowore had submitted a letter seeking an adjournment, no reason was provided to justify his request.
The court subsequently revoked the bail and adjourned the case until June 22 for hearing.
