Vincenzo Italiano has been appointed head coach of Turkish giants Besiktas, the Istanbul club announced on Saturday.
The 48-year-old Italian has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2027-28 season, according to a statement from Besiktas.
Italiano arrives in Turkey after successful spells in Serie A with Fiorentina and Bologna, where he earned widespread praise for his attacking style of play.
He becomes Besiktas’ 11th permanent manager in the past five years, underscoring a period of instability at one of Turkey’s most decorated clubs. His predecessors have included Frenchman Valerien Ismael, Dutch coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst and former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Besiktas won their 16th Turkish league title in 2021 but have struggled to keep pace with fierce Istanbul rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in recent seasons.
The club will hope Italiano can restore them to title contention and bring greater stability to the dugout after years of managerial turnover.
