Six members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in what appears to be a show of political alignment with Governor Seyi Makinde.
The defections were announced on Tuesday during plenary as the House resumed after the Sallah break. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the session, read letters formally notifying lawmakers of the change in party affiliation.
Governor Makinde had joined the APM weeks earlier and was subsequently endorsed as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
According to the letters read on the floor of the House, Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, representing Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Adedeji Stanley Olajide of Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, and Makanjuola Sunday Ojo of Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency all defected from the PDP to the APM.
Others who also left the PDP for the APM include Najimdeen Oyeshina Oyedeji (Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency), Folajimi Oyekunle (Ibadan North Federal Constituency), and Abass Adekunle Adigun (Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East Federal Constituency).
Meanwhile, the Speaker also read a separate letter announcing the defection of the Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The letter was dated April 23, 2026.
Following the announcement, Chinda resigned his position as Minority Leader of the House.
Chinda, a known ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, recently secured the APC governorship ticket in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general election.
