Nigerian footballer Victor Udoh has died at the age of 21 after being found dead in Abuja.

Udoh, a former Southampton forward who most recently played for Czech club Dynamo České Budějovice, had reportedly returned to Nigeria following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season.

According to reports, the striker went out with friends on the night before his death and was discovered lifeless the following morning. While the exact cause of death remains unclear, initial reports suggest possible food or alcohol poisoning. He was said to have died on Monday.

Southampton paid tribute to the young Nigerian in a statement posted on X on Tuesday.

“We are devastated by the tragic passing of former player Victor Udoh at the age of 21,” the club wrote.

“The thoughts of everyone at #SaintsFC are with Victor’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”

Belgian side Royal Antwerp, another of Udoh’s former clubs, also expressed shock over his death.

“With great dismay, RAFC has learned of the passing of former player Victor Udoh (21),” the club said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with Victor’s family, friends, and loved ones. We wish them strength, support, and warmth during this particularly difficult time. Rest in peace, Victor.”

Udoh began his football career with Abuja-based Hypebuzz FC before joining Royal Antwerp in 2023.

In his debut season with the club’s reserve side, Young Reds, he scored 12 goals in 21 appearances and also made his first-team debut against Charleroi.

The forward went on to make 28 appearances for Antwerp, registering two assists, before securing a move to Southampton on a three-and-a-half-year contract. He later left the English club by mutual consent.

In October 2025, Udoh signed for Czech second-division side Dynamo České Budějovice.

His death has sparked an outpouring of grief from clubs, teammates, and fans across the football community.
