A former Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Sam Ejekwu, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ejekwu, a known ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was affirmed as the party’s consensus candidate by an electoral committee chaired by Tajudeen Yusuf, following endorsement votes from local government areas across the state.
He hails from Port Harcourt City Local Government Area and has previously served twice as Caretaker Chairman of the council.
The state PDP spokesperson, Dr. Kenneth Yowika, confirmed that Ejekwu was the sole aspirant in the race, describing the process as smooth and transparent.
In his remarks after the affirmation, Ejekwu expressed confidence in the PDP’s strength in Rivers State, pointing to the large turnout of supporters and the party’s preparedness to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
He also commended the Rainbow Coalition led by the FCT Minister in the state, saying it could help shape political alignments aimed at advancing the development of Rivers State.
Ejekwu’s emergence as the PDP candidate in the state, alongside Kingsley Chinda’s position within the All Progressives Congress (APC), suggests that the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition has produced influential figures in both major political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
