Peter Mbah has emerged as the sole governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election in Enugu State.
The Enugu State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, led by Danmalikin Hausa, announced the development on Friday in Enugu.
Hausa said 397,370 accredited party members participated across the state’s 260 wards during Thursday’s primary exercise, after which Mbah was declared the party’s consensus candidate.
He described the exercise as peaceful and credible, commending party leaders, members and stakeholders for what he called a smooth and rancour-free process.
“Enugu State APC is a well-coordinated chapter where internal democracy, consensus-building, discipline, synergy and peace reign supreme,” he said, adding that the process was “a carnival of sorts.”
He also praised President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC under Nentawe Yilwatda for ensuring unity and stability in the conduct of party primaries nationwide.
In his acceptance remarks, Mbah thanked the APC in Enugu State for endorsing him as its sole governorship candidate, describing the development as a defining moment for the party.
He said the endorsement reflected unity, maturity and collective purpose within the party, adding that it signalled a shared commitment to a new political direction in the state.
“What is happening here is more than a political gathering; it is the coming together of a common purpose and a collective force that is beginning to define a new future for us,” he said.
Mbah acknowledged that the road ahead would be challenging but expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the task.
He said he accepted the nomination with humility, noting that his ambition was not driven by entitlement.
“I humbly accept this nomination with full awareness of the expectations that come with it,” he said.
Reflecting on his tenure over the past three years, Mbah said his administration remained committed to transparency, accountability and service-driven governance.
He added that his government had delivered on key campaign promises through infrastructure development and policy reforms across various sectors in Enugu State.
