The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has dismissed a circulating notice claiming that it suspended its student loan disbursement programme, describing the document as fake.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, the agency said it has not announced any suspension or pause in loan disbursements and urged the public to disregard the message.
The fake notice, which has been widely shared online, alleged that “due to unforeseen operational circumstances… NELFUND has taken the difficult decision to temporarily pause the student loan disbursement programme with immediate effect.”
However, the agency clarified: “This document is fake. Kindly disregard the circulating letter on suspension of student loan disbursements. NELFUND has not issued any such directive.”
NELFUND advised students and stakeholders to rely only on its verified communication channels for accurate updates, warning against the spread of misinformation.
The clarification comes amid increased attention on the scheme, which the Federal Government says has supported over one million students since its launch, improving access to higher education nationwide.
According to official figures, the intervention has cost over ₦1.1 billion, while more than 160,000 youths have also benefited from related digital skills training initiatives.
