Bayern Munich surged to a dominant 5-0 victory over St Pauli on Saturday, setting a new Bundesliga goalscoring record and moving closer to a 35th league title.
Leon Goretzka’s goal early in the second half, Bayern’s second of the match, took their league tally to 102 goals for the season, surpassing the club’s previous record set in the 1971–72 campaign.
Despite leaving top scorer Harry Kane on the bench, Bayern showed no signs of slowing down. Jamal Musiala opened the scoring, while Michael Olise, Nicolas Jackson, and Raphael Guerreiro all found the net in a comprehensive display.
The result lifts Bayern 12 points clear at the top of the table, with Borussia Dortmund slipping up earlier in the day against Bayer Leverkusen.
With five matches remaining, Bayern could seal the title as early as next week when they host Stuttgart.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel rotated his squad ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid, leaving several key players on the bench. However, the changes had little impact on Bayern’s attacking fluency.
Musiala gave the visitors an early lead with a header inside nine minutes. Goretzka doubled the advantage shortly after the restart, before Olise added a third just a minute later.
Jackson struck after coming on, while Guerreiro rounded off the scoring late on as Bayern extended their record tally to 105 league goals this season.
Leverkusen shock Dortmund
Robert Andrich scored a decisive long-range effort to give Leverkusen a 1-0 away win over Dortmund, handing the hosts just their second league defeat of the season.
Despite the loss, Dortmund remain second in the table, though their four-match winning run came to an end.
Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, who recently extended his contract, was jeered by sections of the home crowd amid reports of a release clause in his deal, drawing criticism from teammate Waldemar Anton.
Leverkusen’s winning goal came after Andrich intercepted a pass and fired a low strike into the corner past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Leipzig boost top-four hopes
RB Leipzig strengthened their push for a top-four finish with a 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, thanks to a late strike from Yan Diomande.
The 19-year-old’s 81st-minute winner lifted Leipzig further up the table, continuing an impressive debut season in which he has now scored 11 goals.
Captain David Raum praised the youngster, describing him as “a player with world-class potential.”
Relegation battle intensifies
Elsewhere, Wolfsburg slipped closer to relegation after a 2-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Goals from Oscar Hojlund and Arnaud Kalimuendo condemned Wolfsburg to another setback, leaving them six points from safety.
At the bottom, Heidenheim kept their survival hopes alive with a 3-1 win over Union Berlin—their first victory since December.
