Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, attended the 2026 African Finance Corporation (AFC) Staff Retreat in Lagos, sharing the stage with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa.
The retreat, designed as a forum for reflection and forward-looking dialogue, brought together AFC’s founders and key architects to revisit the institution’s journey, reaffirm its mission, and outline strategic priorities for the years ahead.
During Monday’s sessions, speakers highlighted Soludo’s pivotal role in AFC’s founding, noting that his early blueprint and continued advocacy helped lay the foundation for the institution’s continent-wide success.
Soludo’s presence underscored the importance of strong leadership, institutional memory, and sustained collaboration in building African-led financial institutions capable of mobilising capital for infrastructure and economic development.
Posting on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Soludo said: “Yesterday, I joined the 2026 African Finance Corporation (AFC) Staff Retreat in Lagos, alongside esteemed leaders like former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, and Tony Elumelu.
It was a privilege to be part of a gathering that reflected on AFC’s journey, reaffirmed its mission, and charted strategic priorities for the future.
I am humbled by the kind words about my role in the founding of AFC and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to shaping African-led financial institutions that drive infrastructure and economic development.
Let’s continue to build on our collective strengths to create a brighter future for our continent.”
