Former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter has been appointed head coach of the Sweden men’s national football team, the Swedish Football Association confirmed on Monday.
Potter has signed a short-term deal until March 2026, with a mandate to lead Sweden’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
He replaces Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was dismissed earlier this month after a poor start to Sweden’s qualifying campaign, leaving them bottom of Group B with just one point from four games.
Potter returns to familiar territory, having launched his coaching career in Sweden with Östersunds FK. During a seven-year stint, he famously guided the club from the fourth division to the top flight and European competition.
His Swedish success paved the way for high-profile roles in England at Swansea City, Brighton, and Chelsea. His most recent job was at West Ham United, where he was reportedly dismissed following a disappointing run of form into the 2025/26 season.
