The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, citing alleged anti-party activities and failure to fulfill his financial obligations to the party.
The expulsion was announced on Saturday by the NNPP State Chairman, Alhaji Hashim Dungurawa, during a press briefing in Kano.
According to Dungurawa, Jibrin’s removal followed a series of public criticisms against the party and its leadership, as well as his open association with political rivals of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s national leader.
“Instead of seeking dialogue, he went further to work against our interests, openly declaring loyalty to outsiders. That is why we expelled him — he has no value to add to this party,” Dungurawa stated.
The party chairman also accused Jibrin of repeatedly failing to pay his mandatory membership dues, vowing to take legal action to recover the outstanding amounts.
“It is a constitutional obligation for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently defaulted. We will take him to court to recover what he owes the party,” he added.
Responding to concerns that Jibrin’s possible return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could weaken the NNPP’s influence, Dungurawa dismissed such fears, asserting that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains firmly united behind Kwankwaso.
“If he was truly politically strong, he would have won under the APC. It was only after he joined the NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he returned to the House of Reps. Now he’s deceiving himself, thinking he commands influence,” the chairman said.
Jibrin previously served as Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Groups Management Council before defecting to the NNPP in 2022. He leveraged the Kwankwasiyya platform to regain his seat in the National Assembly. However, in recent weeks, he has hinted at another defection, possibly back to the APC.
His expulsion adds a fresh twist to the evolving political dynamics in Kano, as both the NNPP and APC begin early positioning for the 2027 general elections.
