Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), with close air support from the Nigerian Air Force, have eliminated a notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Malam Jidda, in a renewed offensive in Ngazalgana, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command OPHK, Reuben Kovangiya, the terrorist kingpin—identified as the Ameer of Ngorgore and Malumti—was killed during a coordinated ground and air assault on June 9, 2025.
According to the statement, troops encountered the insurgents and overpowered them with superior firepower. Malam Jidda was neutralised in the process, while several others fled with gunshot wounds.
The military also confirmed continued operations in the Mallamfatori area of Abadam Local Government Area, where earlier engagements had resulted in the death of multiple terrorists. Follow-up clearance missions led to the discovery of more insurgent bodies and the recovery of weapons.
Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, magazines, motorcycles, large quantities of ammunition, RPG launchers, hand grenades, handheld radios, and other combat gear.
“These renewed offensives highlight the effectiveness of ongoing counter-insurgency operations by Operation Hadin Kai, supported by air power,” the statement read. “The Theatre Command remains committed to defeating Boko Haram/ISWAP and restoring lasting peace and security to the North-East.”
