Iran has executed a man convicted of espionage for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, the country’s judiciary announced on Wednesday.
According to Mizan Online, the judiciary’s official outlet, Pedram Madani was arrested and tried after being identified as an agent for the “Zionist regime.” His death sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court following what authorities described as a complete judicial process.
Madani was accused of transmitting classified information to Mossad and meeting its agents abroad, including in Brussels. He allegedly traveled to Israel—referred to by Iranian officials as “the occupied territories”—prior to his arrest in 2020–2021.
The judiciary also said Madani received payments in euros and bitcoin in exchange for information and was convicted of acquiring “illicit wealth,” espionage, “corruption on earth,” and “waging war against God”—charges that carry the death penalty under Iranian law.
His execution is the latest in a series of espionage-related cases. In April, Iran executed Mohsen Langarneshin, accused of aiding Mossad in the 2022 assassination of IRGC Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei in Tehran.
Iran, which does not recognize Israel, has long accused it of conducting covert operations on Iranian soil, including sabotage of its nuclear program and targeted killings of scientists. Tensions between the two nations have recently escalated, culminating in direct military exchanges amid the war in Gaza.
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran has maintained a staunchly anti-Israel stance and positioned itself as a champion of the Palestinian cause.
