Workers’ day: FG declares May 1 public holiday

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement released on Tuesday, commending Nigerian workers for their dedication and contributions to national development.

“Workers’ diligence and sacrifice are key to the greatness of our nation and the respect Nigeria enjoys globally,” Tunji-Ojo said, adding that “there is dignity in labour,” and urging workers to embrace innovation and productivity in their respective fields.

The minister emphasized that peace remains essential for industrial growth and economic development, and called on workers to raise the standard of their professions to support improved governance and shared national prosperity.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to national security, Tunji-Ojo assured citizens of the government’s dedication to protecting lives and property.

He wished workers a happy celebration and encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, reiterating President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
