The Federal Government has announced the early completion of runway repairs at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, with operations set to resume on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed the development on Sunday via X, stating the work was completed ahead of the initially scheduled May 6 reopening.
“Dear compatriots, we worked extra hard to meet the deadline we gave on the repair of the runway… and finished way ahead of schedule,” Keyamo wrote.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had temporarily shut the runway on April 19 after a sudden rupture in the asphalt surface was discovered in a critical section. Emergency repairs were carried out from April 22.
FAAN said the closure aligned with civil aviation safety regulations and reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and airport modernisation.
