Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has been officially nominated as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
The incumbent governor, who was returned unopposed, secured over 300 votes during the primary held on Saturday in Awka. Delegates from all 21 local government areas of the state participated in the voting process, where they cast their ballots to either approve or reject his candidacy. Afterward, the votes were counted and sorted.
Announcing the results, the chairman of the electoral panel, Uche Nwegbo, revealed the following figures: the total number of delegates for the primary was 3,260, with 3,175 delegates accredited. A total of 3,172 votes were cast, with 4 invalid votes. Remarkably, all 3,168 votes were in favor of Soludo, with no votes cast against him.
With this overwhelming result, Nwegbo declared Soludo as the APGA candidate for the November 2025 election, prompting loud cheers from the audience.
“I accept the nomination”
Following the announcement, Governor Soludo rose to the podium amid raucous applause to formally accept the nomination for a second term. In his address, he expressed profound gratitude, stating:
“I want to sincerely, with the deepest humility, thank the Almighty God for His grace upon our lives—the God who gave Nigeria APGA, gave Anambra State APGA, and declared this as our own. With utmost gratitude and humility, I accept the unprecedented historic solidarity, support, and overwhelming mandate given to me by our party to represent it in the upcoming election.”
Soludo further emphasized the importance of continuing the progressive movement in Anambra, saying, “Let’s do it again together. Let’s continue the progress we’ve made in Anambra, as the state rises under the leadership we have here.”
In his speech, the governor also confirmed that his current deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, would once again serve as his running mate for the 2025 election.
The political landscape for the November election will become clearer once other parties conclude their primaries, revealing the candidates Soludo will face in the upcoming polls.
