A High Court sitting in Ibadan has dismissed the case related to the deaths of over 30 children at the 2024 Christmas funfair in Basorun, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Justice Ladiran Akintola, delivering the judgment, cleared Queen Naomi, Oriyomi Hamzat and Naomi Silekunola, and school principal Abdulahi Fasasi of all charges.

State prosecutor and Attorney General of Oyo State, Abiodun Aikomo, explained that the case was withdrawn following requests from the affected families, who expressed empathy towards the defendants and sought to have the case dropped.

Aikomo confirmed that some families had received compensation, and seized documents had been returned.

The defendants had originally faced charges in connection with the tragic stampede at the funfair, which resulted in the deaths of over 30 minors.
