Lagos to shut Independence, Marina-CMS Bridge for two months

The Lagos State Government has announced that the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (inbound Marina/CMS route) will be closed for emergency repairs, with traffic diverted for a period of two months. The repairs are set to begin on Wednesday, March 19, and are expected to be completed by Monday, May 26, 2025.

During this period, the section of the road from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through the Bonny Camp Bridge to the Independence Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic. Additionally, the Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge service lane inbound Independence Bridge will be unavailable for motorists. However, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue will remain open.

For motorists heading to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way, they are advised to take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, then proceed to Falomo Roundabout. From there, they can link Obafemi Awolowo Road to access Ring Road and continue their journey. Those traveling to 3rd Mainland Bridge from Ahmadu Bello Way should go through Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, then link Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road, and connect to Ring Road.

Motorists heading to Inner Marina and CMS from Ahmadu Bello Way will be diverted to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, linking Falomo Roundabout, then proceeding to Obafemi Awolowo Road to access J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road. Motorists traveling to Ahmadu Bello Way from Inner Marina/CMS will still have access through the affected routes.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, reassured Lagosians that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on hand to manage traffic flow along these routes throughout the duration of the repair work.
