2027: APC has only one candidate – Uzor Kalu

Senator Orji Kalu
Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Monday dismissed the possibility of an Igbo presidency through Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Instead, Kalu threw his support behind President Bola Tinubu, asserting that he has the ability to revive the economy and bring much-needed transformation to the country. He made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Kalu emphasized that any candidate representing the South East must be widely accepted by all Nigerians, stating, “I’m not here to discuss the Igbo presidency, but it is clear that there is a need for it. The Igbo must present a candidate who is acceptable to all Nigerians. No single region can elect a president on its own. President Tinubu was not elected by the Yoruba alone; he was elected by all Nigerians.”

When asked about the potential timing for an Igbo presidency, Kalu sidestepped the question but reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s re-election.

“In our party, we currently have one presidential candidate, and Tinubu must complete his eight years. It is non-negotiable. Look at the improvements he has already made to the economy; things are starting to pick up,” Kalu stated. “This president is not engaged in politics; he hasn’t even discussed his re-election.

However, as a party, we have given him a vote of confidence, and the National Executive Council (NEC) has endorsed him through a motion proposed by the Governor of Imo State and announced by the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. Things won’t change overnight, but progress is being made.”

Kalu’s comments reflect his strong belief in President Tinubu’s leadership and his commitment to supporting the president’s agenda for national development.
