Senator Ned Nwoko resigns from PDP, cites party conflict

Senator Ned Nwoko
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he has been affiliated with since its inception in 1999.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, dated January 30 and made public on Friday, Nwoko expressed his dissatisfaction with the party’s current state. He cited deep divisions and irreconcilable factions as the key reasons for his departure.

“My decision to resign is primarily due to the deep divisions and factionalization within the party. These rifts have made it increasingly difficult to unite and pursue the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko stated.

He also referenced recent events, including an altercation among top party officials on January 29, which he described as a low point, further highlighting the internal discord that led to his decision.

“Just this week, precisely on the 29th of January, party leaders descended to the lowest levels by physically fighting over factional differences that have become irreconcilable,” Nwoko revealed.

While expressing gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, which allowed him to engage directly with his constituents, Nwoko emphasized that the current structure of the party in Delta State has impeded his ability to fulfill campaign promises.

“Regrettably, the current party structure in our state has not supported the realization of these promises. After careful reflection, I have concluded that stepping away from the party is essential to fulfilling my obligations to my people,” he added.

Despite his resignation, Nwoko assured his constituents that he remains fully committed to their interests.

“Although I am leaving the PDP, I remain dedicated to statesmanship and to serving my constituents with unwavering commitment,” he said.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, Nwoko emphasized that his decision was made with the best interests of his constituents in mind.

“My decision is motivated by what is best for those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he concluded.

Nwoko also thanked the PDP leadership and its members for their support over the years, wishing the party continued success in its future endeavors.
