President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.

The summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, aims to address Africa’s energy challenges and accelerate energy access across the continent.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will join fellow African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society groups in Dar es Salaam to discuss strategies for improving energy access.

The summit will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources, focusing on energy access in underserved regions, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilizing private sector investments.

On the first day of the summit, Nigeria and other participating nations will present their national energy strategies, or “compacts,” outlining their plans to achieve universal energy access within the next five years.

On the second day, heads of state are expected to endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified roadmap for advancing Africa’s energy goals under the Mission 300 initiative.

“President Tinubu will deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership role in Africa’s energy sector,” Onanuga stated.

Joining President Tinubu on the trip are the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; and the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen.
