The Senate and the House of Representatives have postponed their plenary resumption, originally set for Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Both legislative chambers issued separate statements on Friday announcing the change.
Senate Clerk Andrew Nwoba notified senators of the rescheduled date, explaining that the delay was due to the ongoing defense of the 2025 budget proposal by ministries, departments, and agencies.
He stated, “Please be informed that the resumption date has been changed due to the ongoing budget defense. The new date is Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM sharp.”
Similarly, House spokesperson Akin Rotimi explained that the postponement was necessary to give Committees adequate time to complete their budget engagements and defenses with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
“This decision ensures a thorough and comprehensive approach to fulfilling our legislative responsibilities,” Rotimi said. “The House remains dedicated to its legislative mandate for the benefit of all Nigerians and appreciates the understanding of all stakeholders.”
On December 18, 2024, President Bola Tinubu presented the ₦49.7 trillion 2025 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly for approval.
